Thursday February 16th

BARONESS Whittaker to ask Her Majesty’s Government whether they will consult on a fresh definition of Gypsies and Travellers which would entitle all persons with a cultural tradition of nomadism or of living in a caravan to "gypsy status" for the purposes of planning policy and legislation.

Campaign to change Gypsy Status

Explanation paper
Please see Marc Willers excellent time line of 'gypsy status' cases

and article To be a Gypsy and not be a gypsy that is the Question

"To be a Gypsy but not be a 'gypsy' that is the  question that needs resolving"
The issue of 'gypsy status' will not just go away, please read this explanation paper and then please read and sign the petition below and send to our offices.

This can be signed as an e mail petition for NFGLG kindly set up by Cathay

This petition got renamed and as you can see the status issue goes right to the heart of Gypsy ethnicity
'gypsy' status does not take away some ones ethnicity but it may just as well do. It is within planning law legislation that Gypsy is spelt with a small g campaign Capital G for the Gypsy people.

There is also an e mail petition set up at Direct Gov if you do not believe that status should be lost or acquired then please sign that as well.
