“No Space for Hate”
Thanks to funding from Awards for All we are pleased to announce that we are running a project (“No Space for Hate”) which aims to address hate crime, initially in the Birmingham area. This project, which aims to bring together ethnic and faith communities to look at race hate crime and what we as citizens and community members can do to combat it, will ensure that “anti-Gypsyism” is not excluded when people are talking about hate crime and/or racism. Our approach aims to be proactive: to take action to prevent hate crime arising in the first place rather than solely responding to it when it occurs. Document here

Affordable Homes Programme
“Traveller pitch” funding is to be restored to the Affordable Homes programme (from which it had previously been omitted) via an Addendum to be produced in January 2017. As with the previous Affordable Homes programme this funding will not be “ring fenced” and, as we know from bitter experience, just because it may be possible to bid for funding to develop new sites/provide new pitches doesn’t mean that that will necessarily happen. On a more positive note though, at least funding for new pitches is back in the frame. See here for a piece by NFGLG Policy Officer Adrian Jones in TAT News E Bulletin - No 35 - Christmas 2016.
